      Paleo diet is not a weight loss diet plan, but a way of eating akin to the way people ate for many centuries. A lot of people view the Paleo diet as the ideal way to eat. It is simple in general and emphasises protein and vegetables, minimal carbohydrates and modest amounts of sugar from fruits. This is because carbohydrates can be inflammatory.During the detox, the five days after fasting are intended for Paleo eating. If you have no issues eating this way, you can continue as long as it is satisfying and energising for you.
    • Ayurvedic Option
      If you want to experiment using Ayurveda in detoxifying, make large amounts of kitchari. Make kitchari your primary food during the middle of your natural detox. Kitchari is a known Ayurvedic dish that gently cleanses the body and stabilises all three constitutional types or doshas. This food is nourishing, soothing and a less aggressive way to detoxify. Never exclude the mung beans because they are the primary detoxifying ingredients.

Below is a simple kitchari recipe you can try:

The word ‘kitchari’ means mixture, often of two grains. This recipe is easy to digest and absolutely nourishing.Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup Basmati rice
  • 1 cup split yellow mung dhal beans
  • 2 cups assorted chopped vegetables
  • 6 cups water
  • 2 tsp ghee
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp coriander
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds


  1. Wash rice and beans separately.
  2. Pour 6 cups of water onto rice and mung dhal mixture and cook for 20 minutes or until it turns soft.
  3. Next, add the vegetables and cook for another 10 minutes.
  4. In a saucepan, melt ghee and sauté the seeds and spices. Stir well to bring out the flavour.
  5. Add the cooked rice, dhal and vegetables to the sautéed seeds. Sauté until brown.
  6. Add more water and simmer until the mung beans are tender. Add salt.
  7. Serve.

Important Note: The Kitchari mono-diet can cause constipation since it is low in fibre. To ensure regularity, the following are proven to be helpful if taken once a day:

  • Oat bran
  • Prune juice
  • Psyllium husks/seeds with water

If you want to include the Ayurvedic option in your detox, include kitchari in most of your meals, and at least every breakfast or dinner during these times:

      1. Autumn – replace your meals with kitchari for two days, that is, one before and one after the fast.
      2. Spring – two days before and two-four days after the fast, depending on how you feel.
    • Fasting for Long Periods

A longer fast may give you several benefits. For instance, if you are taking lots of medication, or love munching junk foods and other congesting foods, your body might really benefit from a more intensive detox. Don’t force yourself: detox on your own will. You will know if you need to detox longer because you will feel better and better. Simply stop as soon as you feel your body needs a regular diet again. Some people feel more energised when extending their fast.

Never fast for more than four days without the supervision of a professional.

  • Not Fasting

For some, fasting can be too ‘overwhelming’ for their bodies. In this case, listen to your body. If immune broth and lemonade cannot relieve your hunger, and if the vegetable recipe suggested in the Schedule isn’t enough to make you feel satisfied, perhaps fasting isn’t the right option for you. For several days, eat non-starchy vegetables (steamed) only, with some hard-boiled eggs if necessary. Or, use kitchari for several days.

Choose One that Fits You
