Every week I treat patients who need to detox – make their homes, bodies, and lives cleaner and more able to take on the world around them. Well, today let me talk to you about the four most important secrets that I know, which will make all the difference to you as you detox. And let’s face it – there’s no time like Spring to clean everything out and make a fresh start – in your life – and in your health.

You see, we are all exposed to toxins every day. They are not just in the workplace, public spaces, and industrial areas – but they’re also in our homes – as well as our relationships. Toxins are present in the food that we eat, the water that we drink, and even the air that we breathe – but did you know that life stress, your relationships with others, and even your emotions can be toxic? Because we are all exposed to such a broad range of toxins continually, I recommend that we all undertake regular physical, emotional, and relationship ‘cleansing’ – or detoxing.

Toxins are not just inconvenient – they can make you downright sick. Asthma, cancer, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, and depression are just a few of the many diseases that are associated with exposure to toxins. In fact, I regularly see patients who present with a broad range of symptoms, and upon evaluation and diagnostic testing, we uncover strong toxic exposure. Clearing these toxins goes a long way to help them recover. That’s why I wanted to discuss my four secrets to effective detoxing with you today.

First and foremost, I believe that detoxing must begin with decluttering your home.

1.    Declutter your home

Our homes are where most of us spend much of our time after a busy day. So they must have a relaxing ambiance and should help us feel lighter, freer, more serene, and more focused. This just isn’t possible if things are cluttered. It’s important to know that detoxing is not just about what you can and can’t eat or drink, it should include every aspect of your life. And this starts with decluttering your home.

A cluttered home is toxic because it creates stressed feelings within us as we look at the mess and feel guilty that it’s not cleaner. Furthermore, our brains function best when our surroundings are clean, uncluttered, and organized. We process the information around us more effectively when there’s empty space and structure – it creates a sense of peace within our minds.

Decluttering means you are removing everything that is not necessary and anything that you don’t want anymore. As I have said in my previous articles, decluttering is the art of letting go. I know it’s difficult to let go at times, but you need to in order to give space for something better and different.

Use an empty box as an “Outbox” for things that you don’t want or need anymore.

My One Key Home Decluttering Tip!

All that you need is an empty box to use as an “Outbox.” Place it somewhere you will often see it. Today, get one thing from your closet that you don’t need or want anymore – something you haven’t used for the past six months or don’t plan to use in the next year. Repeat this every day. When you’re done cleansing your home, pay attention to your toxic emotions.

2.    Declutter Your Emotions

Not many of us recognise the power of our emotions in affecting our health. But think about it for a moment… Remember a time when you felt incredible love for someone else – how did you feel health-wise? I bet your health felt great! Now, what about a time when you felt self-loathing, or hatred, or some other powerful, negative emotion towards yourself or someone else – can you think of a time? As you imagine that feeling, notice how it makes you feel physically. Does it make your tummy churn? Do you feel like you’re getting a headache? Or maybe you feel stressed and unsettled. If you felt any of these types of physical symptoms – either good or bad – you’ll know the power of emotion in affecting health.

But what can you do to declutter your emotions?

My Key Tips to Decluttering Your Emotions…

I have three words for you to remember when decluttering your emotions: Forgive, Focus, and Feel…

Forgive. If someone has wronged you in the past, or you feel a strong disaffected emotion towards another person, forgive them (and yourself!). Take some quiet time to imagine them in front of you and ‘talk’ to them and explain to them what they did to hurt you – and how you want to declutter your emotions – and that you now want to forgive them. If you approach it authentically from your ‘heart’ – you’ll feel different – lighter and happier. If you then wanted to send them a loving card, note, email, phone call, or gift – just to send them some extra love, then do it.

Focus. I have a saying I use in my life and when I work with others, and it goes like this: ‘Where Focus Goes, Energy Flows, and Reality Shows’. This means that what we ‘focus’ on, shows up in our lives. Do you focus on your ill health? Do you focus on the negative aspects of relationships with others? Do you focus on what you don’t like about yourself (or others)? If so, then your energy will flow in that direction – and the results of that energy will ‘show up’ in your life. So, decide now to focus on one new, positive, empowering, exciting, fun thing. If previously you focussed on how sick you felt – now focus on all the times you feel ok, or well, or even great. Then watch what happens… Maybe those ‘great’ times will increase in frequency and duration. Remember – what you focus on you get – so focus on positive things and these will show up in your life.

Feel. We can ‘boot out’ our unhelpful emotions simply by replacing them with new ones. And this is my last tip for de-cluttering your emotions – replace unhelpful, old emotions with new ones – simply by engaging your ‘feeling’ power. By this, I mean that whenever you feel a negative emotion coming into your heart, simply say to yourself, ‘What would I rather feel instead?’ Then imagine a time that you felt that new, positive emotion – and your old emotion will be given the boot and the new one will take its place. Let’s use an example: Say you’re at work and a colleague says something that’s thoughtless and it gives you a feeling of emotional hurt. Ask yourself, ‘What would I rather feel instead?’ You may want to feel: joy, or forgiveness, or compassion, or empathy, or relaxed. Then just imagine a time you felt joyful, or relaxed, etc and hold onto that emotion for a few seconds – and notice that the old emotion has been simply replaced. Kinda fun eh?

Now, how about a toxic relationship? Have you heard about that? It’s also one aspect of life that we need to carefully address.

3.    Declutter Your Relationships

All of us have relationships in our lives which we know aren’t good for us. They may make us not feel good about ourselves, cause us to feel stressed or angry, or even feel controlled by others. Well, these relationships are toxic to your health!!

But what can you do to declutter those relationships?

Re-define and re-set your unhealthy relationships simply by cutting energetic ties – and letting them re-establish in a more positive way.

My One Key Tip For Decluttering Your Relationships…

Cut Energetic Ties. I can almost hear you say, ‘Huh? What’s she on about?’ Let me explain… You see, we are all connected – emotionally and energetically. For example, have you ever had a time when you thought about someone and then they called you or popped in – right then? If so, you’ll understand the power of an energetic connection. In some relationships, these connections don’t serve our higher good – they simply aren’t healthy for us. We can re-define and re-set those relationships simply by cutting energetic ties – and letting them re-establish in a more positive way. This is how you do it:

  1. Imagine you and the person you want to cut energetic ties are standing close to each other.
  2. Look down and see fine strands of light connecting you both together – like fine spider webs made of light.
  3. Imagine telling the other person that you respect them and that you’d like to re-establish your relationship with them in a more positive way. To do so, you’d like to cut your energetic ties and allow the relationship to reset itself in a more helpful way for both of you.
  4. Then imagine you have a large knife, a sword, or a pair of scissors and cut those imaginary strands connecting you both. Watch the strands fall away, disconnecting you both.
  5. Then watch the other person float away – and wish them the very best.

It doesn’t need to take much time – but you do need to set yourself up in a space and at a time where you can give it your full attention. Try it and see how differently you feel – and how differently they interact with you. I’ve had many patients who’ve tried this technique and as soon as they finished, they got a call from the other person. It was almost as if the other person felt that something had changed in their connection. Interesting stuff…

I know that today I’ve spoken much about decluttering your home, cleaning up your emotions, and addressing toxic relationships – but what about your physical health? There are so many things we can do together to help your body detoxify naturally. 4.    Deep cleanse using healing earth

Maybe you have heard about healing earth, which is 100% made from bentonite clay, potent clay that detoxifies and cleanses the gut. It enhances the overall health of the digestive system and acts at the same time as powerful antioxidant.

Basically, bentonite clay is made from aged and weathered volcanic ash. It has a strong negative electromagnetic charge that affects the pH level (acid-base balance) of the body. It also contains some essential minerals.
